🔮 Voltage Bloom is a collection of 50 patches for the semi-modular synthesizer Behringer Grind. The bank includes: 14 leads, 11 basses, 14 plucks, 8 textures, and 3 FXs.
⚙️ The centerpiece of Grind is its multi-mode oscillator — a powerful and flexible sound source capable of generating a wide variety of tones. This collection was born from an exploration of that oscillator’s potential in combination with the synth’s other sections and the patchbay.
I deliberately avoided making overly basic or overly abstract patches, instead aiming for a sweet spot between usability and experimentation.
🎹 Unlike some other collections, this one doesn't rely on the internal sequencer. These patches were designed for flexibility and compatibility — you can play them using the onboard keyboard, MIDI keyboard, or DAW control via USB. Of course, the sequencer remains an option if you want to integrate it into your workflow.
💎 The presets span a broad sonic range: warm, deep, noisy, detuned, distorted, soft, clean, punchy, dark, and bright.
Some timbres are built to take center stage in a track or live jam, while others are ideal supporting layers. You can use them as-is, but I strongly encourage you to manipulate the knobs during performance — the sounds are designed to come alive with movement and modulation.
🏮 These presets are well-suited for a wide variety of genres, including ambient, electronica, IDM, deep techno, house, progressive, trance, lounge, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, breaks, synthwave, retrowave, dub, and more.
📗 The soundset is delivered as a PDF document. Each patch is accompanied by detailed notes describing how it works, which parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to evolve the timbre in performance. Following these notes will not only help you get the most out of the presets but also deepen your understanding of Grind as an expressive instrument.
🎼 Each patch also includes an audio example to guide you toward the intended sound and feel.
To recreate the patches, you’ll need up to 7 patch cables.
🎚 The patches make use of the ModWheel for expressive control. To enable this, set MIDI CC 1 as the source for Assign Out using the SynthTribe app.
If you're not using a ModWheel, simply unplug the cable connecting Assign Out to the modulation destination — then control that parameter manually for live expression.
For bass patches, be sure to drop your keyboard 1–2 octaves down to reach the intended register.
I added drums and pads to some demos to create a musical context. They are not included in the soundset.
